On July 2nd we brought 12 students up to Fairyhouse in Ratoath Co Meath to a cookery workshop. The food we were making on the day had an Italian theme. This trip was organised for the students who helped Tracey and Bridget as a reward for their help throughout the year with lunch in the centre.
The owner Billie O’ Shea greeted us and handed us all aprons. We watched Billie demonstrate our first dish which was a dessert a Chocolate Caramel Cake. After completing the demonstration Billie then showed us to our stations and we began making our own cakes. After a well earned break we then watched Billie and were then let off to make our starter a stuffed ciabatta bread with cheese nuts and garlic.
All of Billie’s helpers were lovely and Billie herself was very accommodating to our dietary needs down to altering the ingredients list of the cake much to the delight of our vegan student Erin. Our main course was bolognese with penne pasta and thanks to Billie we learned new chopping skills. We then got to sit out in the beautiful garden which had something for everyone from table tennis to basket ball to swingseats.
Overall the day was very enjoyable and we all got to bring home a doggy bag ! The most important part !! Check out Fairyhouse Cookery School
